Strange sky by shirleybankfarm

Strange sky

This shot is almost SOOC, the only thing I have one is clone out an unsightly wire which ran right across the picture. The clouds at the bottom were black and there was rainbow patches all over. The main on being in the centre but smaller ones bottom left. It's the strangest sky I have ever seen.
My neighbour texted me to ask if I saw them but I was working from home and missed them. A friend @motherjane caught them. This is lovely. People talked about 'rainbow sky' and my neighbour called it polarized.

Hoe lucky you were to see it. I was busy reading and noticed the change in light around me - I did look out and see some nice clouds and colours around but nothing like this. I've seen so many photos of these clouds this evening on the internet (they're nacreous clouds) that I wish now I'd gone outdoors and properly appreciated the sky!

@callymazoo I have just had a look at your friends pictures, she has captured the rainbows far better than I have. I didn't really know what setting I needed my camera on, and I was so desperate not to miss them

@roachling They were truly amazing colours, the strangest sky I have ever seen.

I have discovered that it is called a nacreous sky. Rare and I missed it again. The Aurora evades me too!

Lots on BBC this evening. They are indicators of Arctic ozone destruction in the stratosphere.

This is lovely. I am just so pleased I managed to witness it. The camera couldn't capture what the eye was seeing.

There is a beautiful greeny yellow going through these clouds!

How exciting to witness this Shirley. I can just see tbe colours around the darker clouds.
Do you shoot in RAW Shirley because I'm sure with a bit of tweaking in Lightroom you could bring those colours out more.

Wow. How lovely is this? And impressive how well you got rid of the wire across the clouds. I'm as talented at cloning stuff out as I'd like to be.

@inthecloud5 @motherjane @hermann @gijsje @onewing @barneyone @hermann @maggiemae @deborah63 @anniesue @bethshepherd @pamknowler @leestevo @skstein @tosee @bkbinthecity @cashew @willowdragon Thank you each and everyone of you for your lovely comments and fav's, also the information about this rare happening. I have looked at others shots who have captured this and am amazed at how different they all are. I noticed on a lot that the rainbow colours were very high in the sky. Here there was a very 'heavy' layer of pink cloud above my head and very black/dark clouds on the horizon, then in between beautiful rainbow colours.

@deborah63 Debbie, I do not know what you mean by 'shooting in RAW, I am very new to this sort of photography. I did try tweaking the picture in photoshop and it did bring the rainbow out a little better, but wanted the shot to be more what I actually saw.
