railroad love

Have I ever told you that I love high contrast b&w? It's true, I do.
I love this shot. I think it could be right out of the 30's. Definitely going to print it and show it off....loud and proud!
Another raw shot. Took quite a few and will probably post some later.
(stay tuned for today's Christmas card shot, that will be buried in my other album)

I've never been on the tracks. To the left, is the wrong side. Seriously...not a nice neighbourhood. Sean @slang and I were shooting from the top of the bridge and some guy yelled at us from across a parking lot.
Guy - What are you taking pictures of! (not a question, a statement)
Sean - The train tracks (with a 'duh?' tone in his voice)
Guy - My house is right there. (and he marched off to Tim Horton's)
....um, ok? What does this mean? If you are freaked out about people with cameras so close to your house, I'm thinking you have something to hide. Crack den? Grow op? ...hmmmm
Great shot. The ultra high contrast really gives it a great look.

Great shot, love the disappearing tracks

good perspective and processing, does have a '30s feel to it

Oh yeah, definitely worth the hassle. Great shot. Have been wanting to get a shot like this for ages - just to use the title "cross the tracks" which is my favourite ever funk song. One day.

I do too! And I love this high contrast B&W! Great shot, Jenn!
November 23rd, 2011
great shot - you can see so far down the tracks - and sorry you were so freaked out about trains coming

I think this shot is fabulous & am so impressed with your RAW shots, I might just have to investigate mine after Christmas !! Where on earth were you standing when you took this shot ..in the middle of the track ? You could have been mown down !! I love that black edged with silver rail line going off into the distance, definatly a fave !!!

Brilliant shot, love the PoV, vanishing point and converging lines.

Awesome high contrast b&w, inspiring.

Great light and shadow going on here...

Ha, had my own issues with today's shot that gave me a fright. I really like the telephone poles on the left.
November 24th, 2011
This is just perfect. Love everything about it and am also a sucker for high contrast black and white. Fav
November 24th, 2011
This is an excellent shot. Great lines and contrast.
November 24th, 2011
Oooh nice high contrasty black and white! Definitely print this one up large - with a big white matting and large black frame. (I've been printing some of my shots off for Christmas gifts and MAN they look great framed - especially the black and whites!)
November 24th, 2011
hahaa yes i think he's definitely hiding a crack den! love the shot BTW i am a big B&W fan.
November 24th, 2011
again, love this shot!
November 24th, 2011
@pwallis I've framed 3 b&w shots so far and I love them!
November 24th, 2011
Lovely in b&w - love the misty distance
November 24th, 2011
Great composition and the contrast is amazing!
November 24th, 2011
I agree, high contrast b&w is awesome. This looks great. What software are you using to do this? I'm not surprized by the guy, some odd people live next to seemingly unpopulated areas and then draw the wierdo-bullseye on their head by the way the act.
November 25th, 2011
very cool pov and fabulous processing.
November 25th, 2011
Amazing contrasts!
November 25th, 2011
@sabresun 'the weirdo bullseye' lol! He was off his nut, that's for sure! I've been using lightroom for my processing lately, but you could do this in just about any program.
November 25th, 2011
This is def a cool shot! Glad to hear crazy guy didn't come out and yell at you some more. @pwallis I've been asked for 2 of my shots, framed, as presents already. Makes ya feel good don't it?
November 25th, 2011
@shadesofgrey it wasn't the yelling I was worried about. There was a definite "pop a cap in your ass" vibe coming off this guy !
November 25th, 2011
@happypat Yep, in the middle of the tracks! Whenever I was facing east, squatting for a shot, I'd pop up...swearing I heard the train coming from the west. I wasn't nervous facing the other way though...which is strange because I have NO idea what direction the train goes along here!
November 25th, 2011
@shutterbugger I guess that's what I meant, was trying to talk to the kiddo and type at the same time....doesn't work out to well sometimes!
November 25th, 2011
I love this!
November 26th, 2011
This turned out amazing! Great lines and processing.
November 26th, 2011
Cool picture! I hope this wins the contest for black and white. :)
November 26th, 2011
Love the strong lines, the tracks grab your eyes and throw them down the line. And yet, pull as the tracks might, the rest of the elements are strong enough not to get lost. Nice balance between high contrast and detail. Definitely frame worthy.

Love RR shots!!! This is great:) Plus, I use to live in Toronto back in Junior high - Oakville actually, love it there!
