pier - take two by shutterbugger

pier - take two

Way back in April, I shot the pier down at the Oshawa harbour. It was a miserable day and I said that I'd try on a better one.
Why do I always choose to go down there when the weather is horrible? I'm glad I did though...look at that sky!

First try at Photomatix....and I cheated. I didn't have bracketed shots, so I saved 3 of the same shots at different exposures. Worked ok, but I'll have to bracket next time.
Had this printed 5x7, just to see how it looks...not bad, not bad :)

My shot in April is here....

Great piece of art, it is perfect. I bet it looks awesome printed!

@rumonkey Thanks Corey! Actually, I think it looks better in print!

Cool pic. You know you can use photomatix with a single photo. I use it quite a lot like that. It's defo brought the sky out here.
January 14th, 2012
@fueast I tried it and it wasn't what I hoped for. Isn't it more tonemapping when you do that?
January 14th, 2012
Totally love the symmetry!
January 14th, 2012
@shutterbugger Probably. I dont know my processing is a bit random. I dont really understand the theory
January 14th, 2012
Nicely done Jenn, love the contrast!
January 14th, 2012
Love it love it love it! Faaaaav!
January 14th, 2012
@orangecrush I love that you love love love it Jerry! xo

I like this Jenn, amazing PoV and processing, great shot.
January 14th, 2012
i love the perspective (do i really mean POV?) on this... and the water is scintillating!
January 14th, 2012
@northy POV = Point of View..so yes! Thanks northy :)
January 14th, 2012
great symmetry, sky and processing
January 14th, 2012

@toddchat LOL....Nooooo!
January 14th, 2012
Such a stripy sky & that sea looks rather cold & uninviting ! A very dramatic shot !
January 14th, 2012
darn fine view here, great job - just look at that sky!
January 14th, 2012
gorgeous shot!
January 14th, 2012
nice symmetry, great sea, sky, and perspective - a fav
January 14th, 2012
I like your shot - great symmetry and leading lines
January 14th, 2012
Love this - fav! Not sure how it was on your end of the city but it didn't feel that cold today. I think the sun helped!
January 14th, 2012
I love it, great symmetry and contrast between sky and water
January 14th, 2012
@russianblue it's cold enough!! I was in and out of the car this aft. It was nice when I was in, not so much when I was out! Thanks Kass! How many drive bys did you get today? lol
January 14th, 2012
Like the processing!Great shot
January 14th, 2012
The processing is awesome. Wonderful shot
January 15th, 2012
Hella awesome looooove it
January 15th, 2012
I don't see why you can't use different exposures instead of bracketing. Should do the same thing. Looks cool.
January 15th, 2012
interesting shot very nice.
January 15th, 2012
Hmmm, going to have to figure out the whole bracketing thing now (which I've thus far studiously avoided myself) - all my HDR's are just 3-5 different exposures as well. I didn't realize not bracketing was cheating!!
January 15th, 2012
beautiful shot
January 15th, 2012
Wonderful processing!!
January 15th, 2012
Great result and a fav!
January 15th, 2012
Love the processing here.
January 15th, 2012
Very very nice!
January 15th, 2012
@shutterbugger No road pics for me yesterday! I actually left the camera at home since I didn't want to leave it in the car or carry it around to each house viewing. Yes, missed some great sky shots! ;-)
January 15th, 2012
you're such a drama queen! It's not cheating to use the same shot, but you will get even better results with multiple shots.
January 15th, 2012
@janmaki LOL...don't know if I've ever been called that before!! Thanks Jani!

Do you do that? Bracket in the computer? Usually I can what I want to do to it as I'm shooting but I don't know if I'm going to have the forethought to set the cam to do it at the time.
January 15th, 2012
@shutterbugger I shoot .jpg only these days. Tweaking the exposure in .jpg doesn't bring out any "hidden" details, so I just tonemap the single shot if I want to have a HDR-like feel. If you're shooting RAW, the exposure tweak can bring out stuff. But usually I just bracket in camera.
January 16th, 2012
About that cheating, I do it 90% of the time!! Shoot in Raw, export 3-7 different Jpeg exposures (depending on detail vs contrast) from lightroom, bracket in photomatix...so make space for me on that "cheat" couch, my cheating booty is quite big! ¦).

Fantastic shot - beautifully composed, great details and amazing sky. Fav!
January 16th, 2012
Awesome shot and perspective! love it.
January 16th, 2012
@adeakinyede Great!! I really thought that I was doing something wrong - halfassing it. Looks like we're going to need a bigger couch! Thanks Ade!
January 16th, 2012
Beautiful!!
January 17th, 2012
Really great shot love the symmetry and POV. Fab processing. Total Fav!!
January 18th, 2012
Great perspective!

@rich57 it's not too bad...just wished it had a better preview thingy. I like hdr on buildings but don't have any good ones. Send me a plane ticket please.
