A reversing ring is a special adapter that screws into the threads on the front of the lens and on the other side is a connector that fits into the camera body which allows you to turn your lens around allowing you to shoot macros. However, since you are turning your lens around you don't have auto focus and you have to set your aperture and shutter speed before turning the lens around.
