How can anything so beautiful have such a gruesome sounding name? Well, the sap or fluid from the stems is red like blood and evidently good for a dye. We spotted these coming home today growing along the road less than 100 feet from our driveway. We have no idea how they got there since this is the first time we have seen them. Best when viewed on black.
These are really lovely - the translucency of those petals in fascinating. Great composition - they appeal to me like the Star of Bethlehem shot I posted this week - similar type flowers.
That does sound a bit of an unfortunate name although maybe it has medicinal properties. Very pretty flowers and I like how you have composed the shot.
