I don't know what this is. We were driving past a farmer's field and noticed a hodgepodge of plants growing. There was mostly soybeans, but mingled in among them were a few corn stalks and these sprinkled among it all. I stopped and pulled one of the heads to take home to photograph it on my porch. Right now it is 90ΒΊ (32C) but feels like 103ΒΊ (39C).
I once took a nature walk on Monhegan Island and learned about grasses... You know sedges have edges, rushes are round, grass has knees to bend to the ground. Could be a rush. Makes a lovely picture.
I was going to guess sorghum but it really doesn't match the pictures that come up on Google so I'm still clueless. Nicely photographed mystery plant that.
