A lot of people head south in winter, but my wife and I went further north. Right on the shore of Lake Erie. Not that we chose to go here to celebrate Valentine's Day, but we took advantage of the trip and turned it into a get away! My wife had an appointment with a doctor and her choice was either in Pittsburgh or Erie. We chose Erie since the two hospitals we had to chose from are equal distances from our home. When we woke up on the 15th there was 2 inches of snow and more on the way. (2 to 4 inches) We did make it safely back home!
This is a shot from the balcony of our room using a footstool as a tripod to do a long exposure, small aperture f/11, to get the starring of the lights.

@vignouse - I did find a motel a closer to the hospital, also owned by Marriott and right on the edge of the Lake that I thought would be a great place to stay for Valentine's Day, but learned that the City of Erie owns the parking lot we would have to park our car in. The city charges $12 a day to park. I thought that was a little much since most motels do not charge to park. Plus they upped their rates because of Valentine's Day. We did drive past part of the harbor but it did not look all that interesting with all the boats in dry dock on a cloudy snowy day.
@mittens - That was another reason I chose the motel we stayed in. The Marriott right on the bay have very little restaurants near it. Like you said there were a number of choices around this one. We did enjoy our trip except the weather turned out worse than they were saying it would be on Tuesday and since we were there for a hospital visit took away from it too.
