This was one of a very few artisans that was putting on exhibitions during the re-enactment. I decided to focus on the object he was working on since it was still glowing from being in the fire. It is interesting to watch them work the metal. In some ways it is unyielding and in others it looks like it is soft as taffy.
A lovely blast from the past - I used to love going with my dad to the village smithy when a child and was mesmarised by the red hot iron and the flying sparks ! fav
@ggshearron - Good eye Glover! I guess I attempted to freeze everything but I noticed that slight blurr of movement. Now I wonder what it might have looked like if I used a slower shutter speed and blurred the whole movement of the hammer and his arm?
@vignouse - Thank you Richard. That is what I first thought but now as I look at it it reminds me of a handle. The smith didn't talk while we were there but there was a younger man behind him that was talking to one of the observers. Maybe at some time they said what he was making?
