Here is a shot of our driveway after we cleared it of the bulk of the snow. My wife woke up around 3 am and when she looked out the window she said the snow was going horizontal.
Three good things:
1. The power remained on during the worst of it.
2. A kind neighbor came down the road as I just started shoveling and used his tractor to clean out the most of it.
3. My wife and I and our family survived the Blizzard of 2019.
I do love snow! How kind of the passing tractor to help you, what a difference such things make. Some of my Austrian friends are currently under more than 20 feet of it, piled up to the upstairs windows of their houses.
We didn't get as much as predicted but got a wintery mix. Glad you survived. We are getting light snow this morning but I haven't heard the big winds. BUt then hard to hear over the noise as I am watching my recording of the Patriots game.
@ludwigsdiana@julzmaioro@Dawn@Weezilou@onewing@kwind@casablanca@365anne@joansmor@taffy@mittens Thank you for all your kind comments! I thought I'd do a blanket response. Years ago when we moved to our present location a dairy farmer down the road would always look out for us during the winter and he would plow our driveway when needed. He is in his 90's now. She turned over his farm to his son who gave it a try but farming didn't agree with him. The son now operates a lumber yard and makes stair treads for commercial use. He doesn't plow as his father did. Which is kind of ironic in that when I was young, in great shape and able to do it on my own, my driveway got plowed. Now that I am older and have a bad back I bought a snow blower. Not a big one mind you. It or I would have struggled to clear all this snow even with the blower. So yesterday we got a foot of snow, today our forecasted high will be 9 degrees (-13 Celsius) with a negative wind chill, -7 (-21 Celsius). Tomorrow the forecasted high will be 29 (-1 Celsius) and Wednesday 42 (5 Celsius) with rain. Sounds like some sloppy weather ahead. Up until this snow, we only had light snowfall since November and a green Christmas. But life is good. It depends on what you are accustomed too. I can't imagine living in hot climates and high humidity than you could imagine living in this climate. But our bodies are pretty amazing things. They do acclimate well over time to climate changes. As @casablanca mentioned in her reply, that she has friends that live in Austria who have 20 feet (6 meters) of snow up to their upstairs windows. Now that is a little much. That would cover our ranch style home.
How nice of your neighbour! David (husband) did his fair share of shovelling my daughter's driveway when we visited last winter. Totally foreign to us but I love the snow.
@taffy - When it's your time it won't make any difference what you are doing. My father-in-law died of a heart attack while eating cookies and watching a baseball game on TV.
Good neighbours are a blessing
Stay warm!
