Why did I title it, "Bug Off!"? Well, it seems we have a male bully that continues to scare off three other hummingbirds whenever they come to the feeder or go to the Rose of Sharon blossoms. As soon as he sees them land on the feeder he will fly right at them and there have been these ongoing "dogfights" as they buzz each other. I poked my lens through the curtains and shoot when I see them in the live view screen. You take lots of pictures but very few are in focus or you come away with background and no birds.
@chejja - We used to have the hummingbird feeder on a shepherd's hook. But two maybe three years ago i hooked it to our rain gutter right outside our dinning room window. This year I set up my camera on my tripod and placed it at the window to allow them to get accustomed to it, It didn't take long. Then I used the live view on my camera and remote to trigger the shutter. I got more usable photos that way than this. The problem is guessing the focus, as they are rarely stationary. You are lucky if they hover in place for a few seconds. So I set the focus and turned off auto-focus and hoped for the best.
@samae - Thank you for you very kind comment. I guess I didn't word my commentary well. The curtain was around my lens to somewhat hide the camera. The curtain wasn't in front of the lens.
