Enchantingly Entangled

"Oh! what a tangled web we weave
When first we practise to deceive!"

Sir Walter Scott
That was one a quote my mom used to say to us...esp if she thought we were not being honest with her...And then of course, I used to say it to my boys when they were growing up...I am attempting to figure out what the white stuff is in your photo...some sort of web I guess...but what kind?

ughh...Gypsy Moths! (or Web Worms).......Not a real good thing for trees, but it makes for a nice photo opportunity. Nice work! Personally I always open the coccoon with a stick and let the birds have at 'em!

Thank you, TJ, for providing Karen with an answer!! :-) I snapped this picture on my walk today - these caterpillars (as I call them) have completely devoured the leaves of a small tree, and that entagled web was at the base of the branches. It is really dense and tight! TJ, I will go there tomorrow, grab a stick and "let the birds have at 'em, before they take a new victim!!!
