Run, Mr. Turtle, Run! by slava

Run, Mr. Turtle, Run!

Today we had some really funky weather - rain, sunshine, more rain, strong winds, fast-moving clouds, and a couple of tornado warnings! So, in between all this, we managed to run to the grocery store, Wal*Mart being the closest. (Opening a bracket here - while we were in the store, it was raining cats and dogs outside, and some poor man yelled frantically "I don't want to die in Walmart!!". I though it was quite funny, although I am with him on that ;-). Anyway, when we headed back home the rain had stopped and the clouds were a moving massive mess. Beautiful, but scary, too. We passed Mr. Turtle on the road, and my husband was kind enough to back up, so I could snap a shot. Proud to say that we might have saved that turtle's life. When he saw me pointing the camera at him, he hesitated for a moment, and then he ran as fast as he could! Away from the road, and into the moist, bright green, inviting grass! I loved the yellow specs on his skin, and the way he looked at me. A very brave and sweet Mr. Turtle, who made my day :-)
How cool...love the debris on the shell...proof he weathered the storm! And you did your good deed for the day by steering him away from the street!

Love the story too. Turtles are so cute but they don't live wild in Finland. My neighbour used to have one as a pet. Nice pic.

Oh Slava, I'm so glad you stopped for the turtle...you probably did save him! Last summer I had Ken hit the brakes so I could rescue a turtle from the road, too. I took it to a friend who has an expansive yard with a lovely pond (far from the road). We enjoyed passing him around, taking pictures, and then releasing him to the pond...never to be seen again, but happy in his new home, I'm sure!

I'm so glad you got pictures to share with us! I'll think of him in his happy home...

This is a great picture and story!

And what Theresa said about risking our lives for a photo...reminded me of a long forgotten story..
I was 7 months pregnant with our first, and we were on our way home from a short late spring vacation in the BC interior.
We were in a remote forested mountainous area, and I noticed something out of the corner of my eye, as we passed...so I hollered at Brad to stop the car. Which he did. There was no other traffic on the road.
I jumped out of the car and ran ( ok, waddled! )several yards back to snap some pictures of 2 black bear cubs sitting on the side of the road.
I was still a good 10 yards away, and there WAS a dry ditch between us, but Brad just about passed out when he finally glimpsed what I had seen.
"Honey!" he called ( which is ironic since there were bears about! ), as quietly as he could. "Don't panic...just..please...get in the car. Get.in.the.car!!!"
He was so afraid that Mama Bear was going to come out from behind a tree and attack me.
I wasn't afraid though, I was really intrigued...and managed to snap a few pictures. Plus, I had the ol' pregnancy thing going for me.
Surely Mama bear would've recognized a kindred spirit! ;-)
Hee
Brad never lets me forget the time I just about gave him a heart attack!
