Day 161 - A shot that had to be taken... Noctilucent Clouds
Please view large if you have time.
As some of you will know, I'm a little bit nocturnal.
So, last night (well early this morning actually) I was heading off to bed and went into the dining room to pack my camera bag ( as I'm sure all you 365'ers do) and I looked out of the window and saw this...
It was about two hours before the sun was due to come up, and I just knew it had to be shot. Never seen anything like it before. April has since told me they're probably Noctilucent Clouds, the highest clouds in the atmosphere and only visible in deep twilight.
So out I went into the village to find a spot where I could see it without street lights getting in the way. Eventually ended up in the corner of our village school field and took this at about three in the morning...
@aecasey Thanks April, done a bit of research and they do appear to be Noctilucent Clouds. First I'd heard of them, and certainly the first I'd seen of them. Feeling pretty pleased that I went out took the shot now!
@joeboo@dreamatrix Thanks guys. Appreciate it. Have to say the more I find out about this stuff, the luckier and somehow slighltly honoured that I've seen it. Seen a lot of skys late at night but never seen this before.
@ch1ppy_m1nton@04haze Chippy, Lee, thanks for the favs. I've just noticed that this has got on the PP - I've had one or two on there but it's this one I wanted to get on there, not for my satisfaction for once, but because I actually think this is worth others seeing it for what it is - an average picture of an unusual but beautiful natural phenomenon.
We get to see nice shots like this, because you are a Night Owl! Yay! Very interesting about the clouds. I learned about Mammary Clouds in the shot I took after our tornado warning, and posted this week. Never knew there was so much cool stuff about clouds!
