Stanley Steamer by snoopybooboo

Stanley Steamer

The London to Brighton Run is on annually on the first Sunday of every November. I haven't shown any of the old cars that competed this year so this is the first. If anyone knows what car this is please let me know. This car stopped with all this steam coming out. If you look carefully you can see a light glow on the right hand photo underneath the car. To me it looked like it was running on coal from what I could see when it drove off.
It's certainly making a lot of steam. No idea what it is apart from old Tony.

@flyrobin Thank you Robyn. I went on Google and it showed photos of the old cars in the competition but none of this car. Yes either late 1800's or early 1900's.

I wonder if it made it the finish
November 8th, 2014
@wendyfrost I'm not so sure. I did read that not one car ever makes it without having to stop for some reason or other but they do get to Brighton eventually.

@onlyme111 @lealady @linnypinny @swilde @peterlgrave @nanalisarocks @nanalisarocks @maggiemae @fjmom @agedrunner Thank you for your wonderful and humorous comments and for getting me on the Trending Page again. I've got a lot more of these old cars and I have the names for some of them. Also thank you for the Fav's. Now you've all let off steam tomorrow's vehicle is always remembered and some are still seen on the road today.

Fabulous car! I can imagine saying "I'm just popping out to the shops to get some eggs" and then having to spend quite some time starting the car by lighting a firebox, getting up a head of steam before you can move off. It does make one appreciate the turn of an ignition key!

Great shot. Fav. We saw a report on our local news.

@creampuff Thank you Eve, it sure does. A lot of them had those crank handles to start with as well and they were just as bad.

That is brilliant Tony but no idea what it is fav

Perhaps it is an early Stanley Steamer. It kind of looks like a homemade job. I'm surprised it still runs. I doubt that you would ever find anything like that on the road around here. Wonderful find and capture!
