"Fly Me to the Moon" by soboy5

"Fly Me to the Moon"

American automobile styling in the 1950's was heavily influenced by rockets and jets. Featured today is the hood ornament on a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air, which was the best selling car in the U.S. This concludes my series of classic car detail shots from Sunday's show. Image was processed this morning.
Beautiful! Great POV and and reflections!

@sabine Thank you, Sabine! I love the details of American automobiles from this era, they were rolling works of art!

Very blue.Great angle but dont think you will get to the moon.

@tesssa Thanks, Tessa. That was the name of a very popular song in 1955 - even the music was influenced by the pending "rocket-age". Americans could not fly to the moon, but their cars sure looked like they could!

@soboy5 What can I say way before my time. lol
May 11th, 2012
@tesssa LOL! Before mine too - I was born in 1958!

Must have been a lot of good people born in that year. I was as well. 1985 was a very good year.

@orangecrush Thanks, Jerry - although this was going to be the last in my series, I am going to do one more tomorrow in tribute to the late Caroll Shelby, inventor of the legendary Shelby Cobra. He died today at the age of 89.

@allisonrap Thank you so much, Alison! I like this one a lot but I think my favorite is the 1956 Ford hood ornament, it looks so art deco to my eyes.

@soboy5 @soboy5 I went back to check, and that is a beauty. I think this appeals to me because I used to work for British Airways, and it conjures up the glamour of working for Pan Am or similar in the 50's :-) Beautiful shots/series.....I've really enjoyed seeing them :-)

@allisonrap I really appreciate your very kind comments, Allison and I am so glad you have enjoyed this series. I see how you like this ornament - it looks like a sleek jet plane. I'm fascinated with the mid to late 1950's - it was a more innocent age when anything was possible. I'm doing one more car image tomorrow as a tribute to Carroll Shelby, the inventor of the Shelby Cobra and Shelby Mustang - he died today at the age of 89. A true automotive legend.

@soboy5 oh wow.....look forward to seeing it :-)

May 11th, 2012
@melorac Thanks, Carole - I am so glad I have aroused your interest in classic cars!

Looks like a bird, looks like a plane, but most of all it is just a great work of art, and a great photo- and timely, a local classic car show was setting up this evening as I passed going home. Sure sign of summer!

@dauber Thank you very much. I love photographing classic automobiles and being fairly new to the project, I did not know what the reaction would be to my automotive photography from other members, but I have been pleasantly surprised by all the kind comments.
