De Tomaso Pantera...Imported by Lincoln Mercury

The Pantera is one of my favorite sports cars and is a marriage of Italian style and American muscle. Designed and built in Italy with a high performance Ford 351 Cleveland V-8, the Pantera would run with Ferraris and Lamborghinis that cost 2.5 times as much. Sold in the U.S. from 1971-1974 by the Lincoln Mercury Division, it is a rare car here. De Tomaso continued selling the Pantera in other markets until 1991.

I met the owner of this pristine 1972 Pantera, and he has done a fine job preserving it in its original condition. It looks just like it did when he bought it new in 1972!
Wicked red colours!

I like that you've been shooting glimpses instead of entire cars. Very sexy lines. I saw two Ferraris parked on the street and shot whole thing. Not the same so props to you.

@marieooi Thanks, Marie!
@jgilker Thank you, Jessika and I hope you have a wonderful week also!
@michaelelliott Thanks, Michael - my style of shooting cars has "evolved" and I now prefer detail shots and glimpses. For years, I only shot the whole car but I prefer this approach now. Glad you like them!

@simon0128 Thanks, Simon!
@myautofocuslife Thank you, Livia!
@jdr4690 Thanks, Rob! It is actually much harder than it seems to compose these car show shots as there are people and other cars everywhere!
@paintdipper Thanks, Junan!

It's a fast car, and it's red. It must be a magnet for every traffic officer!

@worthitall Thanks, Rashella!
@peadar In its day, it was a terror. A friend of mine bought one new and became infamous for once making a 30 minute drive in 10 minutes! They easily did 160 mph, which was insanely fast for a street legal automobile in 1971. Now they are usually driven very gently and not often, just to and from car shows and club meets.

How do you find such great colourful shots every day?
July 16th, 2012
@boogie Thanks, Mags!
@cgould Thanks, Celia but I will let you in on my little secret - I shoot a lot of cars at out town's local car show, held on the first Sunday of each month. I then take my time processing them and now I am doing a series of them, In four days, I am going to restart the Tulum series, as I have many more Tulum images I want to share. As Frank Sinatra said, I do it my way - lol.

Lovely red in this Danny. It looks like the kind of car that the original Charlie's Angles drove.

@orangecrush Thanks, jerry!
@groovygirlrn Thanks, Sheri!
@stuckinoz Thanks, Janelle. I loved the original Charlie;s Angels series - they drove Ford Mustang II Cobras in that tv show - so there was a very distant family connection as the Pantera is Ford powered!

@buttercup Thanks, Mary!

Greatlines, and what a patina that red paint seems to have. Chrome too. Not all progress is good. I loved chromework on card!

@seanoneill Thanks Sean and I agree - automotive styling seemed to peak somewhere in the 1960's and it has been mostly downhill since then.
