In the late 60's, racing took over as the main theme for American muscle and pony cars. Spoilers, wings, hood pins and quick release fuel caps were all the rage. This racing-style, quick release fuel cap was either standard or optional on all Dodge and Plymouth performance cars of that era. This particular one is from a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 440, one mean machine. These fuel caps were all metal, very well made with nice details and quite handsome. They were hinged and flipped open, saving the step (and precious seconds) of having to remove the gas cap. Very important in racing but just for show on the street...

I'm doing a mini series on American muscle and pony cars this week.
Love this one. Did you ever race cars or do you just love them? It is pretty obvious that you do. I am enjoying this series and learning.
