A truly iconic sports car, the Lotus Elan roadster was introduced in 1962 and sold through 1973. The Sprint was the latest (and best) version, sold from 1971-1973. The Elan was the first Lotus road car to use a steel backbone chassis with a fiberglass body. This pristine example has been restored with a cleaner, more modern paint job than the original Sprints. The Elan was also the design inspiration for the original Mazda Miata MX-5!
In the UK, it was possible when it was first introduced to buy an Elan in kit form thus saving the purchase tax which didn't apply to kits. I helped a friend build one: it was basically adding the wheels, putting the engine and gearbox in, putting the doors and bonnet on and putting the seats in.
Great shot.
