The grand columned portico of this Southern antebellum mansion was not part of the original 1840 building, but was added on by a subsequent owner. I was fortunate to attend a wedding here and it is a grand venue for such a special event.
Two things I am enjoying re:participating in the nf-sooc challenge:
1. Zooming with my feet - I would never have been able to get this perspective if I had not walked up their driveway to take this image. If I had a zoom telephoto attached to the camera instead of the prime lens, I would have just zoomed from the street and this pov would not have been possible.
2. Using Exposure Compensation - the importance of getting exposure correct in-camera can not be overstated. I took three sooc exposures of this image, each with a different amount of exposure compensation. The first one had the portico too dark, the third one had the right side of the home too bright. The middle exposure (the one shown here) got it just right. If I had not been participating in the sooc challenge, I could have "fixed" the exposure of the first image in post and called it a day, but it is more rewarding to know I got it right in-camera.
I agree, it's a great challenge although I haven't been participating but it does take me back to my film days where we just couldn't waste that much film. Beautifully done Danny.
