These beautifully restored antique Whizzer motorized bicycles are on display at the Knucklehead Cafe, a very nice biker bar and restaurant in Rockmart, Georgia. Whizzer is the most famous brand of motorized bicycle in the U.S. They began selling engine kits to install on one's own bicycle in 1939 - then, in 1948, the company began selling motorized bicycles. The company sold hundreds of thousands of Whizzer engine kits and motorized bicycles in the 1950's. Restored Whizzers are quite valuable today.
Beautiful capture! I was on a bike ride with my sister recently when a guy stopped us to tell us about his new business. He got a grant to start his venture to motorize most any bicycle.
Lovely set of bikes. My son got his motorbike licence some weeks ago but he is still a bit scared of going out with his new bike. That is because many bike accidents have been reported lately.
I was brought up in Nottingham, England, which was the home of Raleigh bicycles (as well as Boots the Chemist and Players cigarettes) In the 1950s I well remember hundreds of Raleigh 'mopeds,' as they were then called, carrying men on their way from and to the area in which I lived. They had to jump on their bikes and pedal, then the motor kicked in and took over. I never wanted one - I much preferred ordinary bicycles! Actually those in your lovely shot look a bit smarter than the ones I recall.
