Why I should clean my deck once in a while by sourkraut

Why I should clean my deck once in a while

As you can see, I survived the dreaded hurricane unscathed. In fact, I managed to sleep through most of it as it didn't amount to much more than an abundance of rain and wind. Fortunately, we don't live in a flood-prone area so no harm was done.

Part of my pre-hurricane preparations involved bringing in everything from outside the house that wasn't nailed down, including a mat outside our back door. This morning I noticed that some algae had grown in the areas not covered by the mat. Before I cleaned it up I figured it would make for a neat shot for the day.
Are those line curve things shadows? I am thinking how they are shown in the floor? :) Nice B&W... the lines of the wood and the curves show great art and consideration of the shot. :)

I have a pattern on my front porch too from the mold of living in WA... So glad you made it through the storm safely... Take care though.. still stormy Im sure...

@yotan18 The darker lines are where the mat used to be. It's got a swirling pattern to it with holes cut out in the design. The lighter spots are actually green algae that grew in those holes. The green turned white when I changed it to black and white.

@nikkers The wind is still blowing like crazy and there's a lot of flooding out there, so I have no plans to leave the house today. Heck, if it were a legitimate enough excuse to get me out of work tomorrow I'd stay home then too. Alas, I doubt my boss would approve.

Oh I see... makes sense, and now I'm curious about the colored one... :D But I bet it wasn't pleasing when you cleaned it!!! :D Well, at least you got a shot out of it. Also, great that you weren't that affected by the hurricane. :)

@sourkraut , but didnt you go out during the storm and get a bump on the head and now have a slight concussion??? poor you ,, I think as your doctor(wink wink) you should take the next day or two off work..

@yotan18 Just for you, here's a color version of the picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/45375609@N08/6090040319/

I liked the green color but felt that the design showed up better in b&w.

@sourkraut Wow! :) Yep, the original one is quite intersting, but the extra drama effect of the b&w gives it an extra kick. As you noted, my first thought was that the curls were shadows... :D Very nice eye you have when you converted dirt into art. :D

Glad the hurricane didn't do too much damage in your area! And I think I like this black and white one better too, although they're both cool shots!

Oh, I love the green of that mold! But the pattern definitely stands out better in b&w. See, there's a reason to not clean sometimes.

good to hear you are safe

Glad all well there. The pattern looks great. I see you are 2 days from 365!

nice patterns, glad everything is fine up in your neck of the woods; branches, no electric, and minor flooding here

Glad to hear you are fine. I never had to prepare for a hurricane in Midwest. Beautiful patterns, especially on that weathered wood.
