My new camera arrived today YAY!! I uhmed and ahed when I got up whether to take a shower or not just in case the delivery man knocked at the door...it was a GOOD decision not to; about 6 minutes later there I was with new camera on my lap! Frustratingly I had such a load of work to do again that I couldn't play much - plus the fact the weather was horrendous until about 6pm tonight. I successfully delivered my webinar so just one more to do tomorrow (yesterday's hard work was worth it after all!). Thought I'd see how the new kit performed taking water shots in low light...I'm amazed - my G1 would never have coped in those conditions! Can't wait for a bit of time and some nice weather to go out and play some more!
Oooh clever stuff and I'm soooo jealous of your new camera. I'm trying to persuade Nigel that we need a company camera ;0) Not sure I could convince the VAT inspector though (who told me off for putting a £6 taxi receipt through the books as it didn't have a VAT number on it) ...that's all she could find bah.. if we'd only known what our politicians were up to!! Anyway have you been using Twister for this - love the clarity!
Yea! Lucky duck with a new toy! Awesome shots--both this and the other. I love the reflection of the colors in the bubbles. I long to own a grown-up camera some day!
Had to come back, because I noticed your new camera is the 60D! Don't you just love it! I have been so happy with mine and sure hope you enjoy yours!! :-)
This is just awesome, Juliette. How did you do this?? I spent all last evening trying to get a nice drop and didn't end up with anything worthwhile. I got drops but they aren't clear like yours is. I have a great camera, so it's something else that I'm doing wrong. Used a tripod too. Suggestions? Thanks a lot.
@tashy@judithg@robinwarner LOL too funny, it could be twister for very teeny weeny little people! It actually is some polka dot wrapping paper that I bought especially for the occassion!
@kjarn ha ha - don't worry my little Lumix TZ20 is certainly not in retirement as a result of my purchase - it will continue to play a very important role in my project!! (It is however in the cleaners as I had sensor dust!!)
@mary1440@michaelelliott I've been tryint to take water shots for a while now with my G1 fairly unsuccessfully - new camera, same settings and BAM! :o) a bad workman never blames his tools...but on this occasion..! LOL I placed a piece of wrapping paper under a glass lid (for the pattern) and just let a tap slowly drip onto the glass lid. See my exposure settings - just used the inbuilt flash for lighting, The rod is formed I believe on the bouce back of the original drop (before the crown forms) and can be made like this if you are using less than 2mm of water - the drip from the tap is straight, the bounce back comes at an angle! As the drip was on a colour dot, manual focus was quite easy. That's it! Now i know my new toy is happy with this stuff, i will definitley try more!!
@sparkle Juliette, thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to explain that. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. I searched the web and found instructions, followed them and NOTHING!! Maybe my lighting wasn't sufficient. Thank you again!!
@damianpowell Thanks Damian, I'm having masses of fun. I decided on the 18-135mm to start with - i have some old Canon lenses that will do the job on further zoom (thought i'm yet to try the 35mm conversion to see what it actually does to the shot. am really tempted by the 10-20mm....but it's a lot of pennies! What lenses do you usually use?
@sparkle What lenses? Until recently I've had three main lenses EF 50mm f/1.8, EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6, and a Sigma 70-300mm APO DG. The 50mm is great for low-light or extremely narrow DoF, the 15-85 was my main walk around lens, and the 70-300 is great for extreme zoom or closeup. The Sigma isn't stabilised but it has a tradeoff of a very useful macro mode. Recently though, I took a trip to America and it was right in the middle of that national debt thing they had going on. Consequently, the exchange rate was so good that I managed to get the EF 24-105mm f/4L lens at just above half price. That has now replaced my 15-85 which I'll probably be selling shortly. I know what you mean about the 10-22mm. It gets great reviews and after I had a play in Jessops, I quite fancy one of those too (especially since the 24-105 isn't as wide as my previous main lens). I've been thinking about getting one from the Canan refurb outlet (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Canon-Outlet) since they offer a full 1 year Canon guarantee - the same as a brand new lens.
love the tiny droplets reflections.
congrats on the new camera
canon FTW!
