Down and out

Had a superb day. Worked from home and headed into Stratford mid afternoon to go and watch the athletics. Have been pretty giddy all day and was even more so when I actually passed the gates into the stadium. Had a bit of a moment when I got to my block and the stewards were completely bemused as my seat number didn't exist. The seats were on the allocations at the ticket office however the seats had been removed and the area turned into press office. One steward decided i could sit on a seat with the press and ten minutes later his supervisor said I absolutley couldn't as I didn't have a press pass (or a big enough camera it seems!). After a bit of a faff, got relocated to another pretty good seat in front of the pole vault area and with a great view of the last bend for the 400m. No medals for team GB tonight, but did get to see Usain Bolt awarded his gold. Had a fabulous evening, took hundreds of photos - wishing I had a 300mm lens! This shot of Holly Bleasdale - I did get the press shot of her with head in hands on the crash mat, but the quality was a bit poor as she was a little way away!! I liked the mood in this as she waited for a victory ceremony to finish before taking her last and failed attempt.

Oh I really Fealt for her. She seemed really stressed. I almost texted you to tell everyone to be quiet as you seemed to be putting her off!

Lovely capture of a piece of the action!!! Just wondering about all those things on the ground, the one nearest looks rather like a snail!!!

So great that you managed to get there and see events for real, we are just viewing the box! Good capture of that moment here.

I'm so envious of you being at the Olympics. You must be having so much fun. Big stink over here regarding the Canadian Women's soccer team - you win some, you lose some. ;-)

So Olympiclucious! :-)

Nice one, glad you had good seats! Do you really need to get there 2.5 hours before your session starts?

Nice one - I had a similar thing this evening - They'd put a giant tv in front of my allocated seat so got moved to another - and even tho it was only wrestling, I still took 150 pics... think I'll have to clear my memory card for Thursday :-)

Odd things on the ground look as if they had been thrown there! Good to have a picture of a real athlete even if she is sitting down!

Sounds like an enjoyable day in spite of having to play musical seats. Great capture of Holly!

Came over to see what you had captured on your visit. This girl was so dejected...but then, she got proposed to!!! Can't all be bad! Glad you had a god time!

Oh blimey - did you have an 'arriving in America' moment?! You could have asked the press guys for a borrow of their lenses. Holly was a bit bunny in the headlights bless her but she was on the wireless yesterday saying it was the best night of her life as she came 6th and and then her boyfriend proposed. @fueast -all alright in the end but if we'd known @sparkle was that close we could have organised a motivational speech.

@judithg yeah...I was very adamant "I am NOT leaving this stadium..."! I was a bit too far away to give Holly a pep talk...she did well, shame she didn't make the next height as she was in 3rd til they put the bar up!!
posted August 8th, 2012
@sparkle That's just the damn problem with raising the bar!!!

Great shot. I have to root for both the USA and GB as we have tons of relatives in GB still and my husband's mom was born and grew up in Wales.

Oh my. I'm so jealous. I wish I was there. How dare they move you from the press area when you're seat is meant to be there. lol
