I posted something very similar last year - http://365project.org/sparkle/365/2011-03-10 and I guess I've had a similar day to when I posted that shot! Spent the day working from home and had one of those days when you discover the work you have been doing for the last 3 months has to go in the bin because the foundation it was built on was faulty. I felt like crying earlier but I got an email in the afternoon to tell me 2 of my photos have been shortlisted in the EEF photography competition so I cheered up a bit! I get an invite to the Houses of Parliament to go to the winners reception in December which is really exciting! The competition was to show photos representing "made in Britain". Marmite, for those of you that aren't from these parts, is a yeast extract spread completley made in Britain - the majority of the ingredients are from the waste of the brewing industry. The other shot that shortlisted is http://365project.org/sparkle/365/2012-08-12 based on the fact that most of the olympic rings and icons were made in Yorkshire.
Isn't it funny what triggers us to do certain things? I've noticed a definite pattern with cooking, too. I'm a seasonal eater and it shows by what I"m cooking when the weather starts changing.
Best of luck in the competition, Juliette. The photos are really good and deserve to win. As for Marmite...what can I say? Maybe one needs to be British to appreciate it. I have tried and failed.
@fueast Ok, I'll pull the jar I've had in my cupboard for six years and put it in a visible place. Will that be enough? 'Cause if I have to eat it, or even smell it, I'd puke. I can get my Bs from a less vile source :)))))
Yay, for the short list, well deserved. As for Marmite, cool jars and I guess when presented with the opportunity I better practice what I teach my children....TRY it then decide. :)
@meisen325 Ha! Looks like a perfect candidate for a game of ingredients charades though... If you've never played that you should :-) I need to get a life and go out on a Friday night!
@fueast The only one disturbing me at the moment is my boss. I was referring to your "...need to get a life and go out on a Friday night..." I am stuck here for another two hours. Thinking of bailing early.
@meisen325 you must bail early - after all you have to get yourself sorted before the weather turns, and you've worked hard all week right? Tell your boss Sparkle and Fueast have given you permission!!
@sparkle No I haven't. I've had a bloody hard week and expect others to suffer similarly. Although your point about the weather may persuade me to let you go...
Well done with the competition! The marmite people in NZ have got the name sewn up there but because of the earthquake in Christchurch, have not been able to make it! Somebody brought maamite in from England and it was barred from coming in!!
The first time I have ever read the Marmite ingredients!!!!! I have never seen different coloured lids either but I am in the like it corner specially on hot buttered toast. Of course me & Fanny have it on the breakfast table ion our B&B's!!!!! Great news about your competition too & I hope you are allowed cameras in the Houses of Parliament so we can see what is going on!!
My mother-in-law used this. Wow congrats on getting in the compitition. That is super. I wanted to tell you congrats on getting on the top 20 list for 124. You are amazing!!
Awesome product shot. I never knew there were so many different kinds/brands of Marmite. I have seen and tasted it in Britain so of course, I'm not that familiar with it (here in Texas).
lovely iconic-type shot :) congrats on being short-listed... that is so ultra cool! and sorry that three month's of work has gone down the drain... that truly sucks :(
I'm not a big fan of Marmite but I'm definitely a fan fof this picture! Congrats on being shortlisted, holding my fingers crossed for you. If they ask me, I'll tell them that you should win :)!
Well done on competition. Both photos are superb, good luck. I love the simplicity if the narrate shot. You always do simple shots so well, make them look so easy, great composition.
Sounds yummy - NOT!
I like this shot - you clearly enjoy all varieties!
Love it or hate it..............believe it or not i've never tasted marmite..the smell is pretty horrendous !!!!
