Marmite

photo 729
I posted something very similar last year - http://365project.org/sparkle/365/2011-03-10 and I guess I've had a similar day to when I posted that shot! Spent the day working from home and had one of those days when you discover the work you have been doing for the last 3 months has to go in the bin because the foundation it was built on was faulty. I felt like crying earlier but I got an email in the afternoon to tell me 2 of my photos have been shortlisted in the EEF photography competition so I cheered up a bit! I get an invite to the Houses of Parliament to go to the winners reception in December which is really exciting! The competition was to show photos representing "made in Britain". Marmite, for those of you that aren't from these parts, is a yeast extract spread completley made in Britain - the majority of the ingredients are from the waste of the brewing industry. The other shot that shortlisted is http://365project.org/sparkle/365/2012-08-12 based on the fact that most of the olympic rings and icons were made in Yorkshire.

Love the variations in colors and your dof. I'll bet I'd hate it. But I'd give it a try.

@shutterbugger Dont listen to her - it's delish!! Spread on a crumpet with a bit of cheese on top - magnificent!

Great composition

Love it? Hate it? I hate it but I love this photo.
posted October 26th, 2012
That would be about a weeks supply for me! Congrats on the photo comp. Awesome. Hope you win.

Isn't it funny what triggers us to do certain things? I've noticed a definite pattern with cooking, too. I'm a seasonal eater and it shows by what I"m cooking when the weather starts changing.
posted October 26th, 2012
Best of luck in the competition, Juliette. The photos are really good and deserve to win. As for Marmite...what can I say? Maybe one needs to be British to appreciate it. I have tried and failed.
posted October 26th, 2012
Great shot! Great DOF! But I'm not sure if I'd like the stuff. The name "Marmite" sounds like something one would eradicate from their basement!
posted October 26th, 2012
@meisen325 Oh Monica I thought you were an anglophile. You cannot be if you don't like Marmite...
posted October 26th, 2012
@judithg @fueast Is that what gives British women their enviable complexion? Other than never seeing the sun? :0!
posted October 26th, 2012
@meisen325 Its full of B vitamins so maybe its what stops us going crazy!
posted October 26th, 2012
I don't know marmite, but congrats for your photos!
posted October 26th, 2012
@meisen325 well i'm British through and through and I don't like it...@fueast maybe that's why i'm a little crazy!
posted October 26th, 2012
@meisen325 LOL - I'd be outraged if that wasn't true!! It's very good for a sore mouth - I remember that from O'level biology circa 1980.
posted October 26th, 2012
@fueast Ok, I'll pull the jar I've had in my cupboard for six years and put it in a visible place. Will that be enough? 'Cause if I have to eat it, or even smell it, I'd puke. I can get my Bs from a less vile source :)))))
posted October 26th, 2012
@meisen325 Blasphemy! You'll be telling me next you don't like Seabrookes marmite crisps - and that vimto makes you vomit.
posted October 26th, 2012
Love the focus, even if I'm another who doesn't like it! Congrats on the photography comp, sounds very exciting :)
posted October 26th, 2012
I love marmite...never though of having it with cheese. I'll have to try that. Great pov and dof and congrats on the competition!
posted October 26th, 2012
Yay, for the short list, well deserved. As for Marmite, cool jars and I guess when presented with the opportunity I better practice what I teach my children....TRY it then decide. :)
posted October 26th, 2012
Love the photo, hate the product:)
posted October 26th, 2012
@fueast Marmite crisps? Vimto? What is this, the English gallery of regrettable foods?
posted October 26th, 2012
@meisen325 Northern delicacies darling! Are we annoying you yet Juliette? Btw - don't knock Vimto till you've tried it!

@meisen325 Ha! Looks like a perfect candidate for a game of ingredients charades though... If you've never played that you should :-) I need to get a life and go out on a Friday night!
posted October 26th, 2012
@fueast @meisen325 noooo, don't stop, that means I'll have to go out then. I've got homemade entertainment in you two!!

@gizathecat top comment!

@fueast Hey, I'm still at work and we have a a cyclone coming our way!

@meisen325 Ooooh sorry to disturb you!
posted October 26th, 2012
Congratulations! And I love Marmite, I used to combine it with gouda cheese on a sandwich, but I haven't had any in a long time, need to buy some...
posted October 26th, 2012
@fueast The only one disturbing me at the moment is my boss. I was referring to your "...need to get a life and go out on a Friday night..." I am stuck here for another two hours. Thinking of bailing early.
posted October 26th, 2012
@meisen325 you must bail early - after all you have to get yourself sorted before the weather turns, and you've worked hard all week right? Tell your boss Sparkle and Fueast have given you permission!!
posted October 26th, 2012
@sparkle No I haven't. I've had a bloody hard week and expect others to suffer similarly. Although your point about the weather may persuade me to let you go...
posted October 26th, 2012
@geertje Oo that sounds good

I like the focus and the way you composed it. Having no idea what it was, my first thought was "is it anything like vegemite?"
posted October 26th, 2012
Well done with the competition! The marmite people in NZ have got the name sewn up there but because of the earthquake in Christchurch, have not been able to make it! Somebody brought maamite in from England and it was barred from coming in!!
posted October 26th, 2012
@maggiemae that's really hysterical! Well i suppose it's one way of keeping a Brand totally intact!!
