Was knackered from my long day yesterday so decided to take it easy by giving the grass its first cut of the year! There is a rule to the first cut of the year which lengthens proceedings...the grass has to be sifted for hiding creatures...in previous years I have saved frogs and amazing caterpillars...today there was nothing lurking so I got on with job in hand. Whilst I was out the front this "thing" flew out of the cuttings bin and landed on my back and then flew in front of me and landed about 4 feet from me. A very cheeky little robin it turns out! I stood still for ages whilst it dotted around me - it pecked at my shoes and landed on my hand! Kicking myself I didn't have my camera to hand I watched him for 15 minutes or so until he flew off. I set to in the back garden hoping he'd see there were more spoils to be had there and got my camera ready. Sure enough once I'd finished mowing and pulling up the edging grass he appeared back. He was great and gave me some lovely shots. He popped back and forward to the garden all afternoon, beak full of grubs and insects - so cool! My mate Jen came round for a walk and now just getting ready to drive down to my Mum's ready for a meeting in Wales tomorrow. Hope everyone had a great weekend.
Such a clear great close up Juliette he is stunning & has great character, love the way he is standing so alert & inquisitive. Just shows the camera should never be far away , a fave !
you are so lucky - great shot of that wonderful little robin.
You do know they evolved to follow the wild boar in the forests, finding the recently turned up grubs, and nowadays they follow gardeners who do the same sort of job
