Had my hair cut this morning, and my hairdresser had a vivid pink flower in a vase at her station. When she finished with me, I took off my black smock and draped it over her counter, so I could take a photo of the flower with some contrast. A couple of the petals were bent, so I just cropped them off, and I desaturated the flower so just a tinge on pink remained. I almost went b&w, but it's been pouring rain all day, so I needed a touch of color.
The flower looks amazing against the black background. Great shot.
There's no way back now Joyce, once you start to "arrange" your shots you'll get more and more into doing that. You'll end up like me... often when I take nature close-ups I start by tidying up round the motif, removing twigs and dead leaves and straws that get in the way ;-)
This is so special. Yeah for hair salons I'd say. Just lovely. The paleness of the flower just is perfect and the black background is to die for, very creative.
@sailingmusic Thanks, Myrna! I thought the flower would look good against the black background - then I decide the flower was too pink, so I took our some of the color!
@helstor Oh, Helge - I'm already doing that - picking up twigs and leaves to make the photo look better. In this case, I really needed to move the hairspray, brushes, etc. on her counter, and I didn't want to get the morror in - so a little staging was necessary! :)
Nice composition and the muted color is great! One of the things predictable about my taste in photos: I seem drawn to images with a limited color palette. Just another reason I like this one a lot!
