I actually took this photo to show to my science classes. We've been studying mechanical and chemical weathering. After school, I took this photo to show how plants can cause mechanical weathering and break apart bricks, walkways and sidewalks. My students never seem to believe that something as simple as a plant can break apart brick and mortar.
@espyetta Yes, MaryBeth - We teach that in 5th grade - and the kids really seem to grasp the concept. Chemical weather is a little harder for hem to grasp!
@sparkleplenty1 I must say... Sophie is in 5th grade and this year I real used what a tough group that can be with all the changes that they uh- huh go through. Whew!
@5unflow3r Trina - I know exactly what you mean - the hormones really start to kick in - mood swings, teariness, loss of best friends, etc, - it's hard for the kids at the end of the year. My kids are moving on to middle school, and while they're excited, they don't want to leave their elementary school where they been for so long! lot of emotional upheavals!
@5unflow3r They totally change! I used to teach "pull out" or resource room gifted ed....I had different grade levels come to me in small groups. My 4th graders would roll their eyes at how my 5th graders would act outside my "mobile unit" waiting for their class or how they acted if they came in...then, they'd turn into that same thing the next year when I had them! I would remind them "Hey! You used to be fine...it has to be you, not me...you saw how it went last year." haha They would just laugh
