Self portrait [get pushed challenge]

For this weeks get pushed challenge, I was asked to take a beautiful self portrait....hmm...I am not one for having my picture taken, I far prefer to be behind the camera than in front of it! Anyway, this was a good challenge for me because I will be honest and say I have never set the timer on any of my cameras, and to take a self portrait there was no other option as I don't have a remote.

The whole thing turned out to be quite an eye opener! The camera obviously cannot focus on something that is not there, so I had to rope my long suffering other half in to sit in the chair for me so I could focus the camera on him, set the timer, then in 10 secs - longest delay I could get on my canon, get into his seat and strike a pose :D Quite a few attempts were made....and binned off.... In the end, this was the picture I liked most of all. It's a thoughtful pose because I am abit of day dreamer too...I love too that my hair is pretty unruly, it totally reflects me!!

I do not have the option of multiple exposures in my camera, so there was some work involved in this in photoshop. Just recently, I have been reading alot about multiple exposures and I have wanted to try it, but I am lazy and without a reason I rarely do anything out of the ordinary... As it turns out, this blending technique is relatively simple. It's a pity I couldn't find a way of keeping the background picture in colour and my picture in black and white, but it seems it was one or the other.

I really enjoyed this challenge. It got me out of my comfort zone and I learnt alot about my camera plus a new photoshop technique.

great work Stephanie! for some reason many photographers do not like to be in photos yet we tell others how important it is to record themselves for their loved ones. I am glad you got pushed by this one!
