Day 061, Year 2 - Popsy Portrait In The Park

Popsy is a nickname for my daughter Alexis that very rarely gets used now she is actually getting quite tall and grown up.

I went up to where she lives outside London to spend the day with her, and we had a great time. It was mostly about going to the cinema to see the new Lego movie (highly recommended) as well as a few other things including going to the park for a bit, early on in the day.

I had the flash gun I am borrowing from a colleague with me so decided I would try and use that. Just wish the sky was bright and sunny so the background would have stood out a bit more, even being underexposed but I still like it. She looks great as ever and the big spot-light looks a little different for a snap taken in the park.

I took her home at the end of the day, and was chatting to her mum about their trip to EuroDisney in a couple of weeks time comprising Alexis, her mum, her half-brother and her step-dad and found out they will going over on a plane so Alexis will be going on her very first plane ride.

I have to admit I was gutted. I was really hoping I would be the first to take her on that particular journey. I spent the journey driving back to London, in the pi**ing bloody rain feeling crappy about the whole situation. I know Alexis will have a blast and that's all that matters but I love her more than ever at the moment, and trips like these are things I really think are important between she and I given we don't live together. And I would like occasionally to have her do things with me first over her mum and step-dad. In the grand scheme of things it matters not at all, and her happiness is what counts, but it's a crappy part of the situation - at least from my own selfish point of view!

I know she's lucky to have so many people who love her.
Look at those cute dimples!! She is so happy that we can feel it! And I can imagine how frustrating it must be for you to know she is going to experience her first flight .. but there are plenty of other "firsts" that you guys can share, my friend. And I believe that "great times" are not only the "first ones". Lovely shot!

@deniseescovino Thank you.
And I know. (I knew you'd comment first :) I just genuinely thought that I would be able to tick that one off just for us but hey ho.

Very cute, she's a lucky girl.

An understandable emotion, Steve. I like what you have done with the lighting, and it looks better large.

looks so happy :)

This wont help but you would still feel guilty about stuff if you were still with her mum and had Alexis full time. When she is grown up she wont care about the 'first' times, just the good times. Carry on what you are doing.

It's a gorgeous photo, and I can only imagine how hard it must be. My dad had to go through the same with me and my sister, but in the end it turned out the booze was more important to him. Just keep your eyes on the prize! She'll never forget who her real dad is!

Awesome photo by the way!

No one else takes beautiful pictures of her like that.

@jasperc I really hope her step dad doesn't get into photography...! Terribly selfish thought but it's an honest one :)
And thank you for saying it.

Even if her step dad gets into photography he won't be a patch on you and won't get the natural, relaxed feel to any photos he takes of Alexis. It's you she loves, you're her Dad and no-one can ever take that away.
