Day 086, Year 2 - Alexis & Her First Sticker Book by stevecameras

Day 086, Year 2 - Alexis & Her First Sticker Book

I went up to see Alexis and spend the rest of the afternoon with her. I picked her up from school, took her to the supermarket to help me choose a card for my Mum for Mother's Day this Sunday, and we also bought her first Panini sticker book, based on the Frozen movie.

I used to love Panini sticker books, collecting stickers based around the English football league players. I remember tearing open a new packet, looking for new and rare cards, filling up the book toward completion and then going to school and playing 'swapsies' with friends to try and trade to get the ones that we needed to finish the book. Great fun.

All that enjoyment may be a little lost on her at the moment, given she's only 5 but I thought that if we manage to complete the book and then keep it safe somewhere, it may become the first of many and something she and I can do together with other books.

The picture was taken in our usual hang-out of the 'dinner shop' in the middle of the town she lives in.
Sounds like you are giving here the best things to do and be creative! Lovely picture here with the background too!

Lovely you can share things together you used to do...she will enjoy hearing all your ''little boy'' stories! This photo really looks good in this new format!

She is so cute! Never to early to start little traditions and this sounds like a wonderful one to do together :)

Alexis looks quite taken with her book and stickers. Creating memories here Steve😊

Steve, somehow in this and many of your photos there's a harmony of colours. Here it seems lots of blue and brown that are well matched and consistent. Is this because you select the scene carefully? Or are you doing something at the processing stage? Or am I just imagining things? And is this the longest comment ever? It is now!

You will be able to share photography soon, get her a little camera and there will be no stopping her. Very nice of you to get a mothers day card with her, my husband doesn't even do that and we are still together.

Well I agree with @debbie3108, you give her a simple camera and she'll start her own project here. How sweet of you to get a card to her mom..Very thoughtful.

@jasperc Jasper...I wish I could say honestly that I saw the scene and the colours were taken into consideration, but they weren't. Except to say that I wanted to create a well balance scene. I did have to colour correct a little - I cooled down the white balance and then had to take a bit of blue out of the general scene as there was a lot of it. But I have just tried to make it look as 'normal' as possible, and get rid of the slightly over-warm tint that the building has. I'd like to think your comment means, that I have colour balanced it correctly in post :)

@stevecameras Thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply. I think my comment must mean you colour balanced it correctly in post! I certainly like the effect. (It also seemed to be a very strong feature in the superb photo you took of Alexis on the swings the other week.) One last question, if I may: you can do all this because you're shooting in RAW or could you do similar to a JPG as well?

@jasperc I think with the X100 the jpegs are almost as good but I should really shoot RAW for maximum help in post. The X100 tends to lag just a little when you're shooting RAW so I shoot jpegs as it's a bit faster. But I haven't done all that much, just a few tweaks in CameraRaw of shadows, highlights and contrast. Then just tweaking the White Balance controls and then when in Photoshop just doing a little more with the Colour Balance tool. :)

Lovely shot of your daughter Steve, and a real rites of passage for both of you. I remember collecting the first ever Panini footie album in 76/77 I think. I know my team were Cup Winners in it!! I wish I had kept it.

@seanoneill Thank you Sean. And I wish I had kept all mine. Great hobbie when I was young. She may never get into it so much but if I stick with it she just might enjoy it for a few years.
