Day 086, Year 4 - When You're In The Gutter, Get The Camera Out
This is the A40 in west London, two minutes from the flat I was staying in while working on this year's Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race.
This is my attempt at a puddle shot which I have seen on Instagram many times over the last few months. The idea is you get the camera low to the ground (or in the is case, actually on it) as possible to make a double image of the scene. This is nowhere near as good as some have done, especially in places such as Westminster Bridge but it's not bad considering the weather was pretty awful and I had decided due to the cold I wanted to only be out for about 20 minutes. After leaving the camera in the actual road for a few shots using the 10-second timer I decided I had a few frames to play with. The puddle isn't as big as it might have been but I still like the light trails.
3 good things:
1 - Good rehearsal for the Boat Race with the Veteran's Race that afternoon
2 - Nice drinks and food in the pub in Barnes with colleagues
3 - Fun to do my first puddle shot even if it didn't quite work
I think it's wonderful! A favourite. The perspective is brilliant and the contrast between the dark part of the puddle and the part reflecting the lights is perfect. Really good shot.
Thank you all.
Camera was fine...it got slightly wet, and luckily wasn't hit by traffic. It would be very annoying but I am an fully insured! ;)
