This is Gorleston beach in Norfolk, very close to my home, and my favourite place to go running. Unless I am running in the Middle East or London, (which are some of my favourite places to go running :) then this is it. Over the last 2 and a bit years I have had some very good runs here, in all kinds of weather, with and without people, and (I am pleased to say) feel I have learnt a thing or two about myself, and my place in the world.
I am planning to leave Norfolk in a couple of months to be much closer to work, and my daughter and I will miss this place very much. Luckily the local village hair salon where I get my hair cut is good enough that I will make trips back on a fairly regular basis, and also get back to see my folks. I am sure I will pack my running gear on some of those trips.
3 good things:
1 - A lay in in the morning to catch up on some much needed sleep
2 - Lots of messages and FaceTime with Alexis during the day
3 - A good osteopath appointment which helped to straighten me out
Agree it is a beautiful place Steve ... think we met one winter morning on this same beach a year or so go and you recommended 365 ... have decided to take up you advice :)
Good to see you on here. I have wondered if you would do it :)
You'll see some great stuff and hopefully learn a bit too...I know I have :)
I'm not in Norfolk for too much longer before I move away - again - closer to London and work in Bucks.
If you fancy meeting at the beach for a shoot that would be fun, as I don't shoot with anyone around here.
@stevecameras that would be great ... you are right some of the images are amazing on here ... makes me realise I need to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself ... let me know when you are available
@alijchapman Ok good stuff.
I am free next week all week at the moment from Wednesday onwards. Maybe one morning if the forecast is good enough to shoot a sunrise?
How would that work?
@alijchapman I think that works.
I'm due at the doctors on Thursday at 0850 so if sunrise is a good idea then my appointment would be straight after.
Or later in the day around sunset perhaps?
Just thinking of the good light. :)
@alijchapman
Hi.....about to go to bed and it completely slipped my mind to get back to you today. Humblest apologies...haircut this morning, funeral this afternoon, a later than planned run and then cooking a curry for my folks and I with a two hour cook time do it's been busy today... humblest apologies!
Tomorrow afternoon sounds good. Sunset is 5.47pm so from 4.30pm onwards the light might be pretty good.
The seafront might be ok but it does get a little shadowy on the beach given how high the cliff is.
How about somewhere with a better view of the sunset?
Have you been to Burgh Castle? You can park outside the main gate and they don't mind if you are in the castle grounds as long as the car park is empty.
If that sounds good or there's a better place, perhaps the larger of the two bridges at St Olaves or maybe Herringfleet Mill given how open the landscape is.
Let me know what you think.
No worries ... totally understand .. sorry I didn't reply earlier but been on a course all week .... don't think the beach will be good either so ... Burgh Castle is good for me ... I know they lock the gates about 6pm for the car park so I think you can park outside the church too ... I will aim to get there for about 4.15 ... there have been some owls about too though have not seen them just recently ... not sure if you are in to wildlife photography ... I will park at the church and meet you there then ... will be good to hear about the places you have visited .. if you can't make it no worries ... Ali

I'll aim to be there for 5pm which gives us time to walk up to the castle grounds for a good view.
