The old Frisian town of Workum has this great annual tradition. Wooden boats sail onto the Lake IJssel (IJsselmeer) and compete in different (sailing or fishing) races during a couple of days. Shanty choirs, harmonica music, smoked ale, jenever and tough (old)boys and girls wearing cool boots, tar smells and exciting moments when sailing out through the narrow canal in traditional sailing boats without a motor!
@caterina These people are watching sail boats from a dike. Without motor they had to sail throuhg a narrow canal to reach open water (IJsselmeer). Exciting sight. Maybe I’ll post a pic so you can see ‘my sight’ ;)
