We don't call this the Lowcountry for nothing. We have these signs posted all over the place because there is water all over the place! I woke up early this morning to go to the pond at sunrise to take pictures. I wanted to get close to the water as so much of it was surrounded by cat tails and I couldn't see over. But I was very, very careful and looked all around and into the water before venturing close to shore. We have seen alligators more than once in this pond.
You must be very careful, Suzie. They are there sometimes and you don't see them. The little one that fishes with Dale can be right by you in the water/lily pads a yard away and he is camouflaged, and it startles you when you see him.
I think I might not have been as brave as you to get such a good close-up pucture! Like seeing alligators in a zoo, but don't want to share natural spaces with them!
