Bridge Opening

As we traveled the Intracoastal Waterway we had to stop and wait at lots and lots of bridges before they would open and let us go by. Some bridges were so low that even "short" boats couldn't get under them. This bridge in North Carolina was one of those and the boats were crowded around waiting for the top of the hour when the bridge would open for us. When it did, it was like a race to get through.
This shot reminds me of waiting for a bridge heading to Lake Michigan. We were sailing to the lake from the canal and had to wait in a long line like this too. I guess it's the price we pay for sailing along! :) great shot!

I love this shot! It reminds me of all the boat traffic that would accumulate while waiting for the bridge at La Rambla del Mar to open in Barcelona. I love how at this angle, the bridge looks impossibly small to span the waterway.

Real characterful boats!

How fun!!! Look at all those boats! I never considered there might be boat "traffic." That just shows how much I don't know. Thanks for the education and stories of your adventures. Love it!

I wish we'd been on a boat when we visited Barcelona. Hopefully someday! My husband was there for a conference (at the time, he was going for his PhD in natural language processing, a branch of artificial intelligence. He ended up opting not to finish the program but instead get his Masters in computer science). He submitted a paper and his school flew him over to present and paid his accommodations... so I got to go visit Barcelona for 10 days for the price of a plane ticket and two nights' accommodation.

Sailing must be a patient sport i know how long one has to wait at times. we have lots of locks here on our Trent Severn Canal System.
