My Get-Pushed challenge this week, issued by Annie, @blueace, was forced perspective. The helicopter (it's a toy, suspended by an invisible string, was positioned about six feet (2 meters) in front of me, and the top of the Laguna Beach lifeguard tower was about 60 feet (18 meters) away.
What I learned in taking this photo: Due to the required deep depth of field to satisfy the forced perspective requirement I had to stop down all the way to f/36, an aperture I didn't know I had. Also the wind was blowing, so the shutter had to be quick, so once again a high ISO was required, in this case 4000. Cropping further challenged the noise factor, but it still came out relatively clear, although my focus point is the helicopter and the background is not quite as sharp as I would have preferred. Forced perspective is more difficult than expected! I still shake my head at the processor in the Sony A7 R II.
i thought there was something odd about the helicopter :-) then seeing that it's all plastic, i thought it was a toy before i read the caption. excellent response to your challenge! aces!
it is obvious that you put a great deal of thought/effort into this project. one would never have guessed the distance between the toy and tower... very clever. a well crafted image..
@maggiemae Ah, invisible string is available to anyone that has Photoshop. Shoot picture with string, erase string from photo, and you have invisible string! Thanks for stopping by to comment!
@naomi Thanks Naomi - had it been a real crashing helicopter I might have had my first newspaper publication! Getting to know the works of the camera really is a source of interest for me. Then again, I'm just a geek I guess.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. I figured maybe someone might get something out of my experience. After all, many of us are on here to improve our craft I figure. And it's fun for me!
@stray_shooter re: your comments about the camera, and both of us enjoying the Sony we got, we're discussing cameras again (some more!) Maybe you'd consider dinner and insights one evening?
