Had to dip into the archives for today's photo. This past summer I went on a trip with my golf buddies to the Pebble Beach area. Along with Pebble Beach we played at the Spanish Bay course, which features a bagpipes player at sunset playing on the first hole. A prime opportunity for a photo!
@redy4et The story, and I understand it is once they finished the course design, intended to replicate a typical Scottish links style course, I think it was Tom Watson quipped, "the only thing missing is a bagpipe player." Bingo - a tradition was born. Now it's a nightly event. It's very cool - the player plays a few songs on the first tee there in front of a restaurant and viewing area and then turns toward the green (seen in the background of my photo) and marches down the fairway playing away, finally disappearing over a hill. On the occasion of my attendance, some deer came out onto the course and followed her down the fairway. I got a few photos of that event, and when I need a filler, maybe I can post some of those.
We have a bagpiper who plays every night at sunset over the summer at one of the lighthouses along the coast. It's a magical sound. You captured this guy beautifully.
@pcoulson Thanks Peter. Oddly enough, we did run up somewhat of a hefty tab waiting for the bagpipes to make their appearance. What a great marketing idea!
@k1w1 Thanks Christine. Love the tradition of a bagpipe rendition by the lighthouse. Hopefully you can treat us to a photo or two once summer rolls around.
