This week's 52 Week Challenge is a bucket list photo - a shot you've always wanted to take. Well, for some inexplicable reason I have always wanted to get a shot of a golf ball falling into the hole. So, this being golf day, I dragged the ol' DSLR to the golf course and forced my golf buddies to endure me shooting balls on the green. Seems I underestimated how quickly a golf ball actually moves when falling into a hole, though. I thought 1/500 sec would be sufficient to freeze the ball, but that wasn't quite a sufficiently fast shutter speed. But then, on the other hand, the blur does in a way convey the motion of the ball falling, so in a way maybe it's better. The bottom line is I didn't have the opportunity to go back out and shoot it again, so this is what I'll have to live with for my bucket list fulfillment for now.
And here I thought you'd had someone capture your hole in one -- that would be an amazing bucket list item to cross off! Well captured to get this moment in time.
What lovely timing and detail, amazinly even at 1/500 sec the writting was still slightly blurred, great job Ron another tick off your photographic bucket list:)
The shutter speed for a fast (or even slow) moving object can really surprise you. But I find the timing to be the hard part. Awesome job getting the golf ball just as it entered the hole!
@taffy Oh, would I LOVE to get a hole-in-one. I've come close a few times, but as of yet have failed to get the magic ace. I've witnessed several in person, so my time is coming - and I'll be sure to get a photo of it! Thanks, Taffy.
@cjphoto Thanks, Chris. Just when you think you have some of the aspects of photo taking mastered, it sends you a reminder that you really don't. ;-) Thanks for the comments.
