the spire of st. michael's catholic cathedral

busy day at the office, didn't have lunch until after two and by that time the snow storm was raging like hell. stayed late to finish off stuff that were supposed to have been submitted two days ago, and of course, because i was the only one left, people kept interrupting me. so this shot from three days ago gets recalled from the archives.

"St. Michael’s Cathedral is a major iconic building in the downtown Toronto area. It was originally constructed away from the city’s centre, but over time the city has grown to encompass it. It was constructed to better serve the growing Roman Catholic population of Toronto. It is a prime example of the English Gothic Revival style of architecture. Since it was originally constructed by William Thomas in 1845-1848, the building has undergone two major renovations: the completion of the tower and spire was done by firm Gundry & Langley in 1865-1867, and the addition of dormers was done by Joseph Connolly in 1890. The interior of the church, divided into a large nave and two tall aisles, is lavishly decorated. The tall arcade, supported by graceful colonnettes, gives the interior space a feeling of openness and adds to the grand sense of scale that the building imposes." - wikipedia.org

thank you, folks, for your kind views and comments; i definitely appreciate them and hope to return the favour right about now.
Beautiful shot of the spire- it could be an old-fashioned post card!

Snow storm raging? Sounds fun! You guys just keep on going when those hit. When we get half an inch, we have to close schools, etc. Just not prepared to deal with it. Gorgeous spire! It is weird how cities just grew out and out, bigger and bigger. Like Paris. It used to be all on Isle de la Cite....I wish I could time travel and go to places like this cathedral above or Paris...in a time long ago!

@olivetreeann - thank you, ann. that's very kind of you.

@espyetta - thank you, MB. time travel? i was just watching 'somewhere in time' the movie with christopher reeve and jane seymour. i haven't watched it in a long time. i lost my dvd i think someone borrowed it and never returned so i got a new one. been listening to the music for the last two weeks. my obsession with time travel is at it again. hehe. every time i get near these old places, it just sparks my time travel urges. of course it doesn't help i was reading that book you told me to read, time and again was it?

This is cool. I love the picture and even as a child I loved time travel stories. I remember a small book about a girl who everytime she whistled What child is this, met a boy whistling greensleeves he was from Heny VIII era. Have you watched Dr Who? I have not but my son keeps telling me I would love it. I even had to throw a time twist into my Oregon Trail book
