i had to wait until my head cleared and even then i was still wobbly when i left home to take in the remembrance service downtown. unfortunately, it was the public transport that failed me as part of the subway route was closed and we had to take shuttle buses to the next available station. and of course murphy's law was handed down as traffic was absolutely horrible. nonetheless, the driver of the bus i was in made it a point to stop at exactly 11:00 and we gave a pittance of time to remember our military as well as whisper a prayer for the safety of those who are in the battlefields, wherever they may be. there were, of course, a handful of sour pussies and idiots who are either totally ignoramuses or just plain sons of bitches who i believe should be sent to war just so they would understand what our military is going through when in active service. bet you they won't even last a day of the training.
so the service was finished by the time i made it to the cenotaph uptown. but across the street, this was the scene.
"To commemorate Veteran's Week, Manulife honours the fallen members of the Canadian Armed Forces with our annual memorial service "Remembering the Fallen". This service honours those who have lost their lives during wartime and peacetime missions. As a tribute to these brave individuals, more than 11,800 flags are planted by our employees, with each flag representing ten fallen members of the Canadian Armed Forces."
Wonderful shot. I am of the generation who went to war in Vietnam only to come home to people who hated them. I was against the war but never blamed the soldiers and am so glad they now can be recognized.
This is a powerful shot. This clearly shows how much Canada has sacrificed to realize that each flag represents ten fallen soldiers.
I was very pleased to hear about the transit driver stopping at 11 - so good to know that we have citizens in all walks of life who honour the past.
Hope you are feeling better soon but so glad to see you out to pay tribute on Remembrance Day.
