this is on a main thoroughfare in manila. vendors are everywhere even in light or heavy traffic, on a small road or a busy highway. they are constant with the beggars and of late what we call here the squeegee kids.
this man sells peanuts and cashew nuts, most probably roasted. the weather on this day was a tad decent so you can imagine how it is for them during 'normal' days of 35 to 39 degrees weather. he is in all likelihood uneducated, having had to earn a living since childhood. or probably he has had some high school education but this is the easiest way or most lucrative way for him to earn a living. the sad part is no matter how honest he is, you would have to be wary. there are instances when these vendors or beggars would just open the door of your vehicle, having previously spotted something 'promising' inside the car and snatch your valuables. that is one reason why most cars there have tinted windows. there was a time when the whole car's windows would've been tinted even the windshield but that was changed eventually.

Your narrative is interesting, as always. I do enjoy the taste of life you give us. The shot goes well with the info, it is so difficult I can imagine to sell the goods like this and to buy goods like this. Either which way not ideal
Not sure I would want to be standing where he is! We have a similar situation here in SA with guys selling goods at the traffic lights (we call them hawkers). You also have to be very careful not to have any valuables visible.
It's everywhere now- even popping up in the US, but instead of selling something they just stand there with a sign that says something like, "Homeless" or "Can't find a job so I can feed my family"; "Need food"! Yeah right- all that tax free money- they should be giving me money! Great selective coloring!
