bye-bye! by summerfield

bye-bye!

a view of the cities of pasay and makati as our plane ascended the sky. this is just a small portion of manila's nearby cities and you can see how densely populated the cities are. the dark winding pathway is a river with large old trees. trees abound around the city but most of them are so skinny, even the hundred-year-old ones, their growth stunted by smog and pollution.

it was a nice visit despite the hospital visits. there were so many places we missed going to and a lot more people we didn't get to see but they will be on top of our list when we come back in two years.

there are some good things to come back for:

the filipino culture is such that we have a lot of respect for our elders, hence it is rather nice to see that the senior citizens are being looked after. we get 20% off all purchases and services. note i wrote "we" as i'm considered senior at sixty. we have priority at taxi line ups, especially when the line is a mile long.

our manicurist/pedicurist is a doll. for 200 pesos which is about $4 canadian, we get complete manicure and pedicure, and lots of local information.

for one thousand pesos, about $25 canadian, we have fresh food for almost a week, including fresh vegetables and fruits.

for 300 pesos, or $6, you can have your hair styled, washed and your head massaged.

for 3,000 pesos a month you can get help to clean your house, do your laundry, cook your food and be at your beck and call.

did i say seniors get 20% discount off almost any purchase of goods and services? :-) and apparently they even get Christmas bonus and gift baskets! and in makati, they get free movies! too bad i'm not a movie freak.

filler, no need to comment; but if you do, know that i appreciate it greatly.
Sounds very economical living - if you can put up with the millions of people and their living too! Amazing shot from the plane!

A great birds eye view, it looks like there's not much space in-between all those buildings.

Wow Vikki, now THIS is amazing!!! First off, add the tag, planescape... That was put together by Junko, Taffy & me and I love what's been amassed! I look forward to hearing more about that visit! I chuckled at the difference in prices between Canada and Malaysia...most especially mani-pedi. That was a top priority as soon as I arrived here as it's efficient and luxurious at a fraction of the NS price! I love that the "older folks" are so well cared for...as it should be. It says a great deal for the people there...and perhaps why they're such good care-givers when they come here for jobs like that!
