mary @m9f9l and i are once again paired for this week's get pushed challenge. her push for me is to use my canon's mirror lock up function. that or light painting. since i suck at light painting, i thought i'd give the mlu a go. that gave me an excuse to open the manual and actually read it. good thing it's only a one-pager or i'd gone to sleep fast.
fast forward (or rewind?) to yesterday morning when partner and i drove to the west end of toronto, as he had to meet up with an old friend for brunch. he had also wanted to feed the swans so i told him to leave me at this spot and he could go looking for his swans. this shallow part of the lake, a pond, really, was covered in a thin film of ice. it's eerie watching the water moving as if underneath a glass. here you can see the CN tower reflected in the glass-like surface.
i love how this turned out, the outlines are quite clear and seemingly more defined. the portion of the lake water that's not frozen really looks like moving water. i think i'm liking this mirror lock up thingie.
thank you for your kind views and comments; i appreciate them greatly.
mirror lock up, when enabled, "prevents mechanical vibrations in the camera caused by the reflect mirror action which can disturb shooting, especially with super telephoto lenses or close-up (macro) shooting, i.e., the mirror flips up before the shutter opens. @espyetta
This is a beautiful picture - lockup or not! I have read it doesn't make much difference. Its really super when you click on it and it turns into the whole screen!
@espyetta - works best with landscape shots or macro. haven't tried the macro yet. thank you, MB.
@cheribug - thank you, my cheribug.
