i met up with an old friend in Niagara falls today. she lives in germany but stays in michigan with her daughter for a few months during the summer and fall.
it was a beautiful day with almost cloudless skies. i walked down to the middle of the rainbow bridge hoping to shoot the two falls with some rainbows in it. but no dice, the border guard who chatted me up last time was again on duty and he recognized me, especially when he asked me where in the states i had been and i replied i didn't go to the states but only walked up to the middle of the bridge to take some photos. he said that when the skies are clear, it's not easy to get a rainbow from that vantage point, there needed to be a good amount of clouds and that the best time was around late afternoon. or else, i need to take my shots real close to the falls so that the light from the sun would get refracted through the mists and thus catch a rainbow. but i'm happy with this shot nonetheless.
also, i found out that the canadian 'maid of the mist' was indeed bought by the americans including the name rights and that our new 'maid of the mist' is now called the 'hornblower tour cruise'.
thank you for your kind visits and comments; they are most especially appreciated and enjoyed.
I love being at the falls but I have never seen the rainbow bridge or this view either. I just went when I was 12 and 18 for a few hours each time on the Canadian side
@lesip - thank you, leslie. i hope the weather is good when you come.
@barneyone - thank you, rita; i did have a great time.
@claireuk - thank you, claire. there are two, the smaller one which is on the left is situated on the American side, and what is called the horse-shoe falls is the one at the far end with the heavy mist rising in the centre of the photo. it is u-shaped that's why they termed it horse-shoe, and it is much bigger hence the higher and denser mist coming up as the waters hit the bottom. i wish you would be able to come and visit someday. :-)
@678tabby - thank you, june, yes, i did have a nice time.
Sure wish it had been this sunny when we met!! Oh well... Jeff is saying we might be heading up in October some time (o: !!! I'll let you know if we actually set a date. He can be rather impromptu with these things.
@olivetreeann - that's what i was thinking when i was there. i didn't really have a lot of chances at photographing around. it is really different when you walk around with like-minded people. it's a long story. but, yes, please do let me know. i went the same way i did last month when we met up, train in the morning, bus in the afternoon. and i think, the next time i go by myself, i would definitely cross to your side of the border and go to the american look out. it should be exciting! thank you, ann,
@pandorasecho - must come in the near future and show it to the family! thank you, dixie.
@bkbinthecity - thank you, brian.
