channeling my inner gloria swanson in her role as norma desmond in the 1950's movie, "sunset boulevard".
-o0o-
this idea came as an accident. i thought of doing a line from a song from the graduate but i also wanted to do a post for the madhatters' photo history theme this week. the brownie hawkeye was beckoning me.
yesterday, i have taken out my winter gears. i have had this fake mink shawl for years. bought it on sale for $10. i used it once when we went out for fine dining. couldn't bear to part with it. i knew it was going to be handy for something someday. tonight is that someday. the silk arm gloves came out of hiding, too, and i wrapped my head in an old silk scarf. i had to shoot in black and white so there's no evidence that the head wrap was dark mauve, the dress was dark teal which thankfully didn't show. the red lipstick made me look like an old(er) woman so changed to bright pink, another hold out.
so i didn't know how to label this, when partner came into my apartment and burst out laughing. i made a pose and i said "i'm ready for my close up, mr. demille!" and i had a eureka moment: sunset boulevard!!!
so, there you have it. the first movie scene for this week. did i pull it off good or what?
thank you, kind folks, for your visits and comments; know that i appreciate them truly!
***Absolutely*** Stunning! You, m'dear, are a knockout, a star..."Stellar" as they say! I could only wish to have the panache that you have to pull off photo like this out of the hat! However, I'm delighted to be in your audience and cheer you on! Bravo!
@Weezilou - thank you, louise. thank you! :-) all was an accident, believe me. now, i have to put my bedroom in order as i created so much chaos looking for stuff! hahahaha!
You are so beautiful! Great job with this pic. Very retro! I remember when we'd watch Carol Burnett show...she did a skit where she was Gloria Swanson, as an elderly actress in hiding in her house, as she came down the stairs...asking for them to "get her good side." Anyway, Vicki! This is terrific! fav
@amandal - see, if you are just a drive away from me, you could be my model. today i need a pair of great looking legs but mine won't do even if i photoshop it. thank you, kiddo.
@summerfield It's a pretty long drive, but less than a full day. I like the idea of a Niagra falls meet up. Maybe I can pull that off. I'll need a passport. Wish I could help you out today!
This "star" is, definitely! Stunning shot! Great to hear about the process too. Don't you just love it when you have no real idea and all of sudden everything just clicks into place for the perfect composition? You look mah-venous , dahling!
@678tabby - old stuff that i couldn't bring myself to give to salvation army or the goodwill store. i now rue that i had this gorgeous pillbox hat when i first came to canada and i gave it away. :-( i suppose i can go to the thrift shop and get some cheap props. and i have a slew of old cameras too that are collecting dust! thank you, june.
@amandal - oh, kid, you're one of those i'd very much love to meet. and when we do, we will make sure i have some time to take your photo! yes? thank you, kiddo.
@grammyn - let's not go there yet. we need to have you your proper sewer tart profile pic first before that! hahahaha! thanks again, katy.
@barneyone - oh, what a sweet thing to say, rita. thank you. looking forward to may!
@altadc - grandma can still rock it, hey, kiddo? :-P
I'm going to be getting my passport in the near future. i am planning on going back to Niagara Falls. I've talked a bit online with Ann about possibly going in the spring.
What an amazing idea, concept, and execution!! You are to be admired not only for your beauty, but for your perseverance, your follow-through, and for all those props and cameras that you somehow manage to fit into your apartment!! And, yes, I know exactly what you mean by the mess you made to get yourself ready for this shot!! Too much work, but so worth it!! FAV!
I realise I've seen this but enjoy seeing it again! That hat is so good on you and you look so much in that era! I've already faved this but would again!
Well I've never seen it before so I'm glad you're making it resurface! Beautiful, beautiful Vikki - indeed you are ready for your close up still, even two years later :)
@espyetta - thank you, MB. there's been a lot of spoofs on that scene!
@annied - why, thank you, miss annie. how sweet of you.
@maggiemae - no, i don't. got too much going on in my mind and too much to do when my camera is not in my hand. :-) thank you, maggiemae.
