condemned

another one from my photo outing with christine @k1w1 and cathy @cathrinemitch yesterday.

in december 2012 i posted a shot of this abandoned boat, in winter but without snow. see here: http://365project.org/summerfield/365/2012-12-24 this is how it looks now, two years on. there is more obvious deterioration, especially the lines that have come off and precariously swinging in the wind.

as you can see the lake is terribly frozen, even beyond the breakwater (the thin dark line in the horizon is the part of the lake that is not frozen which is a lot farther away). according to reports, this is the second year in a row that all five great lakes (huron, michigan, ontario, superior and erie) had been frozen due to continuous extreme low temperatures.

there were people who were ice fishing near the marina that is west of this ship. and we actually walked over to the ship, with christine and cathy going much further towards the stern. i only stayed up to the plank (and took a couple of selfie that didn't turn out!). i'd have gone over but i was quite anxious that technically i was standing on 'water', frozen and iced though it may be. but the snow was knee deep and we disturbed most of it, at times our legs buried knee deep and it was rather comical when you have to walk through. it was a nice experience and a wonderful excursion.

the "dark" part of the sky is actually the blue sky and the clouds beneath is actually a light mist.

thank you for your kind visits and comment; know that they are truly appreciated.
Really cool.

Sounds like a cold experience -guess your shoes don't have leaks! Mine do but I am not expecting this sort of weather! Great to have a subject like this for a good photo!

Great B&W, Vikki. Good contrast and a fascinating subject. Much more interesting in its deterioration and POV here.

Isn't the other picture of the ship one of the ones that you framed or put in your portfolio? This is a much more dramatic shot! It looks absolutely fabulous on black! If I were you I would swap the other one out with this one! The snow in the black-and-white just make it look so much more abandoned or condemned! Fabulous fabulous image! FAV!

Well, I linked to this and just now noticed I've never commented on it. I wish I could have been with you to walk out onto the hard water and get up close to this.
Aces on you My darling.
