the very first time i went abroad (i.e., outside of the old country) i went to singapore. after all the meetings i attended, i went shopping for knick-knacks because i loved those miniature stuff. this vase was my very first purchase, $3 american dollars in 1978. i hauled this with me to oman along with my books and other knick knacks i acquired later on.
now i am lazy to clean them and dust them so for the longest time, they were in a large suitcase. some of my collection had been damaged and i'm still trying to decide if i should take the time to put them back together or just discard them. i think i should discard them. i have so much stuff i'm pretty sure i'm going to hell when i die.
thank you for your visits and comments; know that they are truly appreciated.
Lovely vase with great carving. It's difficult to separate from precious memories. During the same year, 1978, I attended a conference in Manila. I bought a painting for US $25... when I arrived to NYC it costed me $100 to frame it, and I would never let it go; it's a great memory of my first international work trip.
@maggiemae - hahaha! it's only about 4 inches high i doubt my ashes would fit in there, plus i'll have a hard time cleaning it. but then again why would i clean it, i'm all ashes already!
This is beautiful, love the detailed pictures & such a lovely colour red.
You made me laugh summerfield....i'am big bones,so I would need a large vase,lol....
I love this, saw so much of this when I lived in china, and bought a bracelet of it, but saw some seriously huge pieces of furniture too. I also am a collector, I'd love to convert a lot of the surf to photographs with the story of why it is a good memory.
This red vase resembles one in my mother's curio cabinet. Her's is about 5 or 6 inches high. I always thought it came from China. I'll have to go take a look at it , maybe a photograph?
All these beautiful pieces should be enjoyed. I have a small round piece with a lid with basically these same carvings and same material. I'm keeping all my pretties to enjoy now...someone else can destroy them.
When we moved in 2009 I yearned to be minimalist and failed miserably, too many things do crowd us but the memories they hold cannot be undervalued. Hell? I must be going too, but then the other place could be a lonely spot, love the vase too ;o)
boy did I laugh but I'm going to hell too. I'm glad katy will be joining us . If you end up being able to part with some of your less than perfect treasures maybe take photographs of them so you will always be able to visit them. Put them in a treasure box and no dusting is required. You captured this vase beautifully. @grammyn
This is lovely! Yet, it probably weighs a ton, and takes up too much space....I vote for "rehoming" it....now that you have photographed it you can take it to a Goodwill store, or offer it to a friend or relative! Then, it will feel loved again rather than sitting in a suitcase! Just saying.....and, that's what I say to myself, too! BTW, I tried to get rid of some of my old cameras this weekend at a trade-in event at the local camera store, and they did not even want them!! Talk about feeling rejected!

Interestinge piece, great shot with just the right amount of light to show off the detail well!
