updated description: this asana helps open the shoulders and gives abdominal muscles a good work out. it builds mental focus.
this is the easiest pose i can muster for the five plus two's "yoga" theme this week. i am getting too old for these self-portraits.
i could never understand the logic behind yoga. all those twisting makes me have spasms in my back muscles every time i do them. i can't do a lotus position as my fat legs hurt when bent. meditation i can handle without any problem and i would feel good. yoga? i would need a wheelchair aftewards and a lot of rehab and therapy.
so far removed from my gymnastic days. oh yeah, that was some 50 years ago when i was a lot limber and when all my body parts were more easily twistable.
thank you, folks, for your kind visits and comments; know that they are truly and greatly appreciated.
You are looking very well balanced here! The fascination people have with yoga has always befuddled me. Never understood the need to twist yourself into weird and seemingly unnatural positions.
I agree with you- if I want to twist, I'll just put on Chubby Checkers and dance. hehehe Actually, if you can separate the religion from the exercise, I've heard it's a good work out. But I'd rather take a walk with my camera! Good for you though- you make it look like you've done this before!
You are always beautiful and graceful, and I don't care how many years have gone by between your gymnastics days and the present!! However, this pose does not look like it opens the shoulders at all! You know, one time I was doing the tree pose on one leg, and I had to sneeze, and I still managed to hold the pose perfectly while hopping on one foot! ;-)))
Well, on a more serious note: yoga, religion, jogging, marathons, driving, singing, painting, lifting weights, photography... do whatever keeps your boat afloat.
Really, for yoga and pilates, it's all a matter of practice: take it slowly. It is not a matter of fatness, but of flexibility. And that can be trained.

Great photograph!
@monikozi - mein Gott! this photo was from 6 years ago! i knew this was done before. and i doubt i could do that again without leaning on a very strong concrete wall! i have no idea what to post today for this! and your video was hilarious!
thank you, ladies and gents. i found out the name of this pose and i have updated my description above.
