flip flops by summerfield

flip flops

there's a fair amount of etsooi that went on this shot. i hate doing mirror shots as you get to see unwanted reflections. so i put my tabletop studio as a plain background and that's when you hit with a surprise upon uploading: dusts on the mirror surface. that's when the etsooi started and one thing led to another and well, if i do anymore, there won't be any posting. my head aches like a ton of bricks had fallen on me, my sinus is clogged yet my nose is runny and throat is sore i might be having a strep throat. so, don't get near me.

so what made me do this shot? well, i kind of did the first steps of the tag challenge. i got b&w, mirror and reflection. too bad about the b&w because the rim of the mirror is gold and the flip flops are purple with glittery stones. from avon, if you can believe it. i bought all 3 colours - purple, white and charcoal gray.

also for the mundane-flipflops challenge.

thank you kindly for your views, comments and faves on my collaboration shot yesterday. i am humbled and flattered. you are always kind to me and i'm grateful.
nice sharp reflection, hope you feel better after a good nights rest

There isn't an ETSOOI challenge you could have tagged this for too? I really like what you have done with this one. What in the world did you mean when you said I had mad editing skills?! This looks pretty fantastical to me.

Really like how you eliminated the mirror "stuff"...thanks for the explanation. And I saw Jackie R's question & your answer. I never heard of either of those, but I'll check them out, too. Thanks so much.

Hey Vikki - katy @grammyn recommended that you might be able to suggest some key places I should include on my 'shoot list' while in Woodstock/Toronto ON later this month. What should a UK person add to their list?

Very well done

@cottiac - hi. woodstock is about 142 km west of toronto about an hour and a half by car. is that where you're staying? is your toronto trip just for the day? if you know when you're going to be in toronto, let me know and i can take you to the CN tower, it is a must-see especially when the weather is beautiful. the last two 365 visitors who were here didn't get the chance to go up the tower because of the fog. obviously there's nothing to see when you're almost 2,000 feet high and the fog is dense. but when it's a nice day, you can even see the mist of niagara falls from the tower.

around the vicinity of the tower is the rogers sports arena (formerly skydome) the first sports complex with a retractable roof. if you're interested in baseball or basketball and there's a game you might want to take in a game.

part of the CN complex is the new ripley's aquarium with awesome marine exhibits. and across the street is the rail museum, and beyond is the harbourfront or the lakefront where a lot of activities take place.

a short walk (for me) going east is the flatiron building with its unique mural http://365project.org/summerfield/365/2011-04-07 and a block east is the old st. lawrence market area.

uptown, you can visit the historic casa loma. it may not be as big and opulent as your castles but we love that castle and we're proud of it.

you can always take the ferry to the toronto islands and shoot the toronto skyline from there, especially during sunset, again if the weather is good.

other notables would be the distillery district, the toronto zoo and chinatown. guys, feel free to chime in if i forgot something, eh.

if you're available in the evening, and @northy is also available, we can bring you to the university of toronto. we're supposed to have a "365 tradition" (that i keep forgetting) where we take selfies in the arches http://365project.org/summerfield/365-still/2014-07-07

i'm tagging here my other photo buddies @k1w1 and @cathrinemitch just in case they'd be in toronto or they'd want to join you in trekking around toronto.

think i've covered most. the one thing that is really interesting in toronto is the variety of food and restaurants as we are a melting pot of cultures here so if you're adventurous when it comes to food, you will enjoy toronto.

@summerfield maybe someday *sigh*

@summerfield Thank you very much for your full reply! To be fair I'm staying in Woodstock with relatives and am a bit in their hands. Given we haven't seen them for 12 years they might not think that much of me jetting off to see others, as we are only there for about 3 days.

I don't know what they've got planned, but they've asked what we'd like to do so I was trying to get some sensible answer together for them.

The mural looks fantastic! as does Casa Loma, so we'll see if we can get there.

What would be your comments in terms of 'nature' as opposed to man made structures?

@cottiac - nature? off hand... a cruise on the Grand River, if still available, is a nice way to see the natural beauty of ontario. i think it runs through woodstock so it will just be a stone's throw away. around the area, specifically in hte next town of cambridge, we have the african lion safari.

i take it you will be going to niagara falls? a side trip to one the vineyards/wineries, especially around niagara-on-the-lake would be nice.

in toronto, way east, there's the bluffer's park, along the shore of lake ontario which has rock formations 90 metres high, the more notable of which are the cathedral bluffs http://365project.org/summerfield/365-still/2013-10-14 and http://365project.org/bill_fe/365plus/2016-07-05

the royal botanical garden in hamilton, about an hour from woodstock, is also worth a visit.

if i think of anymore, i will leave a comment on your album. thanks.

Yes they have Niagara on the list which is very nice - have done it before but was not so into photos at that point and all on film - so looking forward to that. Will see if we can squeeze in N-O-T-L as it does sound rather nice.

Right Bluffers Park is going on the list right now!

Will check out the botanical gardens and wait with interest any further thoughts you have :-)
