be sure to bring your camera and call mike gifford.
on my last full day in san francisco, mike and i got together for a photoshoot. this is the view of the city of san francisco, the bay bridge and treasure island. we were in the old naval base where the carrier uss hornet now serves as a museum. it was closed as we got there later in the afternoon, but i intend to go back there and i will make it a point to see it. i was telling mike that when i was still a little girl back in the old country my father would make miniatures of uss hornet, and other famous warships, inside a bottle.
i also shot this very place from the airplane on our ascent out of san francisco to toronto.
What a fabulous photo of gorgeous San Francisco and the bay, oh my! Jerry served on the USS Hornet on his first tour of duty in the Navy, in the 1960’s. We will be on the Hornet next July for the shipmate’s annual reunion being held to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 spacecraft that the Hornet recovered in the Pacific. We are really looking forward to that reunion.
Same Skyline, different processing makes it an entirely different photo! So jealous of the time you got to spend together. Your photo is every bit as beautiful as his.
@louannwarren This event sounds marvelous for sure! The USS Hornet Museum is open daily and there are organized "sleep overs" as well. There is a Halloween week event as well!
@mikegifford We are members of the museum and see all the cool happenings, Texas is just too far to get there often. The last time we were on the ship, Jerry showed me his bunk below deck. I swear it was maybe 18” wide, smile.
Superb panoramic capture. I have vowed that should I ever be in the San Francisco area again I will contact Mike and try to get together for a photoshoot.
